THE MINISTERS of Agriculture and Environment demonstrated a commitment to feeding Barbadians yesterday by planting fruit trees.

As part of the activities for World Food Day, which will be celebrated globally October 16, the Agriculture Minister, David Bowen, and his counterpart in the Ministry of the Environment, Senator Harcourt Lewis, shared the shovel in ceremonies at The St. Michael School and Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).

Bowen said the tree-planting shows the community Government's concern and interest in ensuring there will be food for all Barbadians. He said Government's policy on agricultural diversification is but one example of that commitment.

The minister predicted that in another year the diversification programme will expand.

"Come World Food Day 1994 the whole diversification programme should take on a bigger perspective," he said.
