LOCAL agriculturists are stunned by developers' plans to import grass and dirt
for the Royal Westmoreland Golf Course, St. James.
"This is a crazy thing to do and it is very scary," says agronomist Colin Hudson. "I know for sure they could get every and any size grain of sand for the golf course. I don't believe this."
He's certain the developers could have found whatever grade of sand they needed from Barbados' Springfield Mining Company. Keith Laurie, immediate past president of the of the Barbados Society for Technologists in Agriculture, (formerly the Barbados Sugar Technologists Association) termed the proposed imports "unbelievable".
"I can't believe the sand from Springfield was not adequate," Laurie declared.
Callers flooded radio talk shows yesterday on the topic. And, a Westmoreland director, Paul Altman, fielded questions on VOB's Brass Tacks.
