RECENT heavy rains proved a bother for operators of the Mangrove Pond Landfill as it created a run-off of the clay used as cover material. Deputy manager of operations at the Sanitation Service Authority, Stanton Alleyne, said however they had taken immediate steps to arrest the problem at the St. Thomas site. He said the rain was cracking the clay, creating trenches and running off into the road.
"We are cutting trenches along the sides of landfill," he said.
Alleyne said it should have been cleared up by late yesterday.
