OPPOSITION spokesman on Health and the Environment, Johnny Tudor, has charged that a new garbage mountain was in the making at Mangrove Pond.

His comments came as he attacked Minister of Health and the Environment Liz Thompson for not keeping her word to close the Mangrove Pond facility.

"The BLP has totally misled the public. You have a situation where you cannot open the landfill at Greenland. You still have a long way to go and we will judge you," Tudor said.

He said the BLP promised to close it "immediately" but Thompson rose on a point of order, quoting from the 1994 elections manifesto to show that the word "immediately" did not appear in it, even though they did promise to shut it down. Tudor, in rebuttal, also quoted the same document which went on to say that the BLP would have built an incinerator. He charged that Mangrove Pond was full and over-flowing with garbage, so much so, that they were building mounds on top of the garbage and pushing the garbage pile upwards.

"The concept of landfilling does not exist at Mangrove Pond (any longer)," charged Tudor.
