WE HAVE been coming to Barbados for the last 31 years on holiday and business and stayed all over the island.
For the last six years we stayed in St. Lawrence Gap, Christ Church, and had to endure loud music, karaoke, noise and disruption from the South Coast Sewerage Project, two cement mixers going all day behind our apartment, somebody trying to sell bongo drums, whistles and conch shells by playing and blowing them in the evening at the front of our apartment, in addition to a bulldozer and other equipment moving sand. Once again we accepted all of the noises as part of the area, but the final straw and the reason we are off was two alarms constantly going off in the daytime and the evening within 100 yards of us.
The daytime one was coming from a place called Jambalayas. It goes off at least twice a day for about ten minutes. One Sunday it was going all day, and according to local residents it has been happening for at least a year! We politely complained to the relevant authorities our apartment manager, the management of Jambalayas and the police. They all said there was nothing they could do.
I found this statement amazing, especially coming from the police at Worthing Station, who informed us that every time the alarm went off they had to "check it out". What a terrible waste of police time and manpower. A reply would be very much appreciated.
