EXECUTIVE OFFICER of the Tourism Development Corporation (TDC), Natalie DeCaires, was recently presented
with a bound volume of THE NATION'S Green Page series for 2000, sponsored by the TDC itself.
"The Greening Barbados campaign was viewed as a timely and effective mechanism for improving Barbados' physical and natural environment, and by extension the quality and sustainability of its tourism product," DeCaires said.
Established in 1987, the TDC, a non-profit organisation strives to be a catalyst for positive growth and sustainability of the tourism industry in Barbados.
"The TDC felt that the Green Page was the sponsorship option with the greatest scope for informing and educating the public about environmental issues affecting Barbados and the world today, and we viewed this educational component as a critical aspect of any effort to effect change in the way we use and treat our environment," Decaires added.
She said the TDC was pleased with the results of its sponsorship of the Green Page in terms of both quality and content of the page, "as well as the educational achievements of its publication".
The TDC supports product development initiatives and is often linked to environmental conservation since Barbados' natural environment is one of the key elements of the island's tourism product.
