THE ALERT level for the Kick 'Em Jenny volcano has been changed from orange to yellow.
The Seismic Research Unit of the University of the West Indies in Trinidad removed the orange alert at 10 a.m. yesterday after calm had returned to the volcano. A lower level, yellow alert, which applies to mariners to stay 1.5 kilometres away from the area is now in place.
Barbados, Grenada, Trinidad, and St Vincent had been on a heightened alert since 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, after increased activity by the underwater volcano. A major eruption could have triggered tsunamis (giant waves) which could have affected one or more of the neighbouring islands.
